We are moving A Tofu Tail into alpha! This means that A Tofu Tail is feature complete and ready for testing. We move into alpha knowing that there still requires some polish and balancing, though these enhancements will be relatively simple over the next couple of months of alpha-testing! 🙂
Along with this, we have sent a submission to Indie MEGABOOTH in hopes to share our game-dev experience and show off the game at PAX East in March! Regardless of our submission being accepted or not, we will be moving forward, full-force, in releasing A Tofu Tail as soon as we can!
With that said, here is a brief synopsis of our progress!
We fixed some inconsistencies in the game mechanics, as well as finished up all of the core mechanics and applying the reverse movement function, allowing the player to correct a certain number mistakes without having to start the level from scratch.
If anyone has any opinions on this aspect of the game play, please let us know! We are looking for anything that will make the game more fun and enjoyable.
We had added a fully-featured failure indicator in boss stages to give you more of an idea of what you need to be aware of in the boss stages.
We have also fully implemented the timer system and GUI to compete against your friends! This plays into the “3-star” level rating system for each level.
All thirteen Kitsune characters have been fully animated and implemented into the game’s story and boss levels. Get ready for encounters with foxes that are groovy and fiery-spirited foxes, to the time-traveling and philosophical!
Tom has completed both the regular stage and boss music tracks for the Space-time Realm and has been polishing up the existing tracks. We hope you look forward to hearing some samples of these songs over the next couple of posts! We are excited to share them and get some feedback!
We have also been discussing the other tracks that will contribute more to the ambiance outside of the core game play pieces of A Tofu Tail.
Dialogue scenes now have Mr. Tofu and Kitsune characters with emotions/expressions. The only thing left here is writing some of the dialogue and making some revisions to the script.
No huge bug-fixes other than a few game mechanic inconsistencies. So far things have been pretty forgiving! (fingers crossed)
Again, our highest priority is marketing and business stuffs, though a bit slow. Kicking off the alpha version and testing will be a huge help, and we can focus on building and balancing the flow of the levels and the game overall at this point, while adding in all the polish to make this thing shine brighter than a flashlight that projects 10000 lumens!
Go ahead and comment and share this stuff with your friends! We would love to get feedback and get some involvement from the gaming community – we depend on your comments and want to make the best experience for everyone playing A Tofu Tail!
